Anything you can do, I can do better. Or at least just as well. Honda has the C90, Yamaha the T80.
If you’ve read any of my other descriptions you’ll know I like to do a bit of reading up and bring them to life a little. I’ve done the same here, and in my research I came across a Yamaha T80 nicknamed Alan. In honour of Alan the T80, our T80 will henceforth be referred to as a male. (If he subsequently decides to identify as female or neutral, that’s absolutely fine. This is 2018 after all.)
If you’re reading this you probably know one or two things about Japanese step-throughs, but bear with me. The 4-stroke Honda Cub came out in the late fifties and Yamaha didn’t board the step-through train for nearly fifteen years after that. When they did get around to it they delivered punchier, but perhaps less family friendly 2-strokes. Then came the Townmate. A four stroke, shaft driven machine. The shaft drive is crucial. If you do some googling you will see comments about it being slower than chain drive but in real world use this is a complete non-issue. You don’t ride a sub-100cc bike to break land speed records, but the T80 can be as feisty and fun as a sackful of ferrets. We’ve had a few of these in and the subsequent owners absolutely delight in their performance. I’ve got a video of one absolutely tearing down a mountain road in northern Scotland, sent to me by a happy customer.
On top of that, the shaft drive is very low maintenance and clean, clean, clean. You could ride to your wedding on this bike and not worry about oil getting on our dress/tuxedo. And after the ceremony you can both ride off together as it’s got pillion pegs.
This one is a 1993 model with only 16,000 miles under his belt. Original Townmate leg covers, rear rack, the classic Townmate exhaust shape and all over handsome looking. His paint is fine, his rims are clean, his chrome is shiny and his engine runs like a dream. If you’ve never tried a Yam step-through, here’s your chance. Get in touch to make an appointment. We’d love to show you this bike.
This bike has been through the NOVA system. We can arrange registration and delivery. Registration is a 3-step process: obtain a dating certificate from a DVLA accredited dating officer; MOT; registration with DVLA. This costs £150.
