We are delighted to present this lovely 39-year-old example of the archetypal French people mover.
The deux chevaux was made from 1948 to 1990, delighting generations with its aerodynamically quirky design and the lovely, squishy suspension.
Ours is a 1983 Charleston in classic delage (burgundy) and black. It has covered 36,216 miles, of which only 3 miles since its last MOT in 2018. For this reason only we are selling it as a project. It starts on the key, runs, goes through the gears and stops when you depress the brake. Since it has been sat for a while, however, it will require some checking (and probably new tyres) before it can be signed off as road safe.
It comes with loads of history. In 2015 it had a new exhaust and was resprayed. In 2017 it got a galvanised chassis. Around the same time the gearbox was reconditioned and it had a new clutch. Plenty fo receipts for this and other work.
Cosmetically he (for it is a he) is pretty good although certainly not concourse. The paintjob was good but there are some areas where it is showing its age. Please see the photos and video.
This car will reach historic vehicle status next year making it tax- and mot-exempt. It would be a light project and provide someone with a cool runaround or potential investment opportunity.
