1977 Yamaha GT50 mini trail in original condition

Classic off road two stroke from Japan

Travel around Australia and it seems that every little outback town has its own big something – a big pineapple, a big lobster etc. These are usually enormous renditions of whatever the town has plumped upon, made of fibre glass and steel. Japan, or the Japanese auto industry at least, has kind of gone the other way. They make, hands down, the best 660cc cars in the world and have been doing so for over 50 years. On two wheels, no one, not even the Italians, can touch the Japanese on the sheer range of fun, cool and occasionally just weird, 50cc machines. You’ve got the Ape, the Monkey, the Gorilla, the Chaly, the Chappy, the Dax, the Motocompo, the Gag, the Giorno, the Julio .  .  .  The list goes on, and that’s before we even look at the ubiquitous Cub or the 50cc trail bikes that deliver so much.

Here we have a classic of the genre, a 1970’s GT50. This twin shock, air cooled two stroke is all original and in really good shape for a 40-year-old off-road machine. The GT 50, somewhat similar in style to the earlier DT1, was actually the successor to the mini trail FT1. It has a seven port torque induction system, a double cradle frame and delivers 4HP.

The look of this bike is classic and even the original details such as the side reflectors remain in place.  The twin shocks, compact frame and upswept, inward curving exhaust complete the 70’s mini-trail package. This bike is a treasure for small bike lovers as well as trail riders and classics aficionados. It has not been restored. For cosmetic condition, please see the photos and video. Mechanically, everything works and she would make someone a great little runaround or a very cool addition to the back of a motorhome.

It has been through the NOVA system. We can arrange registration and delivery. Registration is a 3-step process: obtain a dating certificate from a DVLA accredited dating officer; MOT; registration with DVLA. This costs £150.

Payment can be made through direct debit or debit/credit card. FINANCE AVAILABLE
