CORONA VIRUS: Due to the lockdown announced by the PM on March 23rd, Seven Seas Motors are able to deal with enquiries and process sales (take deposits, customer details etc.) At this stage it is unclear whether we are able to send staff in to prepare the vehicles for collection or to get vehicles MOT’d. As such, we are not certain we will be able to complete sales, that is to say deliver vehicles or arrange for collection for the foreseeable future except possibly in exceptional circumstances. The exceptional circumstances may be instances where a customer is a “essential worker” (eg. healthcare professional) or carer and requires the vehicle in order to attend their duties. These will be addressed on a case by case basis.

The situation is very fluid right now so please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any queries. You can reach us on 01924-911222, where someone working from home will do their best to answer any questions you may have.

In Japan there is a class of motorcycles called Business Bikes. These, starting with the Honda Cub in 1958, are small-bore bikes with single seats and rear racks and are called business bikes as they were generally used by delivery people, sales staff and commuters around the country’s sprawling cities.

Some business bikes are the traditional motorcycle shape with the tank between the handlebars and the seat but a large portion of them are underbone models that allow the rider to step through the bike for ease of mounting and dismounting.

The Gear 50 is one of the Yamaha range of underbone business bikes and this one is specifically aimed at delivery riders with a large basket at the front and an oversized rear bed, to which can be attached various boxes. While it is an underbone, it is also a scooter with a rear mounted engine, footwell as opposed to pegs and twist-and-go operation. It is a two stroke, giving plenty of low end power, has a rigid frame and comes with small, broad tyres for extra stability. (This bike is so stable, one of our staff has nicknamed it the “two-wheeled trike”.) In addition, the automatic gears make it an absolute cinch to ride.

Ours is a 2006 model in white with electric start. It is ultra-low mileage and in beautiful condition. Really exceptional. This is a working bike and to find one like this is almost unheard of – and we’ve got two! It would make an ideal delivery scooter for a small business and, being white, could easily be decorated in custom decals. It would make an eye-catching marketing tool as well as an extremely economical business tool.

It’s not all function, though. Being a two-stroke it is a surprisingly spritely little scooter and could just as well be a fun runaround for the private individual. I don’t like to go on about it, but it really is in lovely condition.
