Description

Wikipedia will tell you that the Honda CM125T was in production between 1982 and 1986. Not so, Wikipedia! They first came out in Japan in 1978 and it is one of these very first year models that we have here.

In some ways the CM125T indicated the start of an era of growing self-confidence for Honda. While never short of guts when it came to innovation and forward thinking in business planning (note the massive investment in the Super Cub production plant and retail network of the late fifties and early sixties) on the design side it always leaned towards the conservative.

The CM125T, mechanically an eminently practical machine, gave off an image of flair and panache. There is a definite nod in the direction of American Cruisers with its high handlebars and overall shape; the tear-drop tank, stepped seat and chrome add to the effect. This was a bike that would get you to work – but as soon as that was out the way, on went the leathers and you were all set for an evening of hangin’ with the gang.  And behind all the razzle dazzle was a great twin cylinder engine.

The CM125T was popular in the US, Europe and Asia. In the UK it was learner legal so for many people it was the first proper bike they ever rode. Nowadays an early model such as this has become a much sought after collectors’ bike. As well as the nostalgia, the high bars, twin shocks and overall lines give it real cachet.

Ours is a rare example in green and in nice condition all over.
